Babelfishing

This was tranferred over from Citynoise.org before it got deleted.

This was originally going to be a comment in A Grisly Example of Man's Inhumanity, but it became so long, and so off-topic, that I decided to start a new thread. Babelfishing is the mental sport of trying to decipher the gibberish that can come out when you use babelfish (world.altavista.com/tr) to translate a sentence multiple times, using different languages. I first started doing it while chatting at www.alamak.com.

Ok, babelfishing of sentence commencing...

1 - Original English version:
So when you see us posting comments about cruelty to animals, do not assume that we are still assuming that was what happened to the frozen animal.

3 - Back to English:
So when meeting to us, contribution when we still suppose concerning the cruelty which to the animal where those which happen to the animal freeze is, you do not suppose you comment.

5 - Back to English:
This way when meeting to our, the contribution is when we assume still concerning cruelty which does not assume becommentariëert to the animal where that that to the animal frost happen, you you

7 - English again:
This road meeting to our, contribution when we assume still relative to cruelty which does not assume becommentariлert to animal where that which to the animal frost it occurs, you you

10 - Now back to English:
This road, which meets, on, our contribution, if we assume always quite at the cruelty, which does not take over becommentari?ert at the animal, where that, which at the animal frost it produces itself, it it

12 - English again:
Us in the place in the animal frost by form that, it it it creates, in the animal the becommentari? When the cruelty frost which does not undertake the ert it guesses always positively, 10001, back in place, our contribution,

14 - And the final result in English is:
In force in the animal frost from the form that, this this this we create, in the animal becommentari? When the frost of cruelty that it does not undertake the ert this supposes always positively, 10001, behind in force, our contribution,

There! I think that makes things pretty clear...

How about the simple phrase, I love you

    To French
    je t'aime

    To Portuguese
    de o gusto

    Back to French
    du goût

    To Italian
    del gusto

    Back to English
    Of the taste

    Hah?

I think I'll use sign language.

EvilG...Don't you have a homework to do?

  • LMAO... Just waiting for my exams to begin in a week. I can just picture some poor schmoe from some remote corner of the globe meeting his new love, who he met over the internet, for the very first time. There he is, holding her hands in front of him, the candlelight reflecting the joy in their slightly misty eyes, and he says, in his most romantic voice, "Of the taste". I can then imagine his date staring for a moment, then saying she needs the washroom, and off she goes, never to return.

  • Try babelfishing "I love you." from English to Japanese to English to Korean to English to Italian to French to German to English to French to Portuguese to French to Italian to French to Greek to English to Chinese Traditional to English.

I think you will find the answer simple and to the point, but I have no clue how to say it.
